From time to time I have pretty long Q&A sessions with Chatty G to learn about various topics. I thought this conversation about legal worker ownership was worth publishing.
Most consulting firms operate on outdated assumptions about ownership, hierarchy, and where value actually comes from. This post challenges all of that and makes the case for worker cooperatives as the model that actually fits how consulting really works. Based on lived experience, not theory.
A month-by-month breakdown about what I learned at Cooptimize in 2023.
My perspective on capitalism and free markets shifted after forming a worker cooperative. I highlight the flaws in traditional capitalist consulting firms, such as opaque agreements, lack of competition, and secret salaries. I advocate for more transparency, freedom to compete, and the end of restrictive employment agreements to promote innovation and change in the professional services industry.
